Recently I met a man named Jed, who is an old timer from the early days of pot farming.
Jed was in his prime in the 60s and 70s, and although he is retired now he still has a lot of amazing stories from the old days.
Today he is 100% legal and legit, the owner of his own medical cannabis dispensary and delivery service. Back then he was just a farmer who had to carry a machete and a shotgun to guard his fields. Even when he opened his cannabis dispensary things sounded like they were pretty wild. Since the federal government wouldn’t accept deposits from cannabis sales, they could only take cash, no checks or cards. All that cash began to pile up, which made cannabis dispensaries a prime target for armed robbers. There were a handful of different crews that did nothing but target cannabis dispensaries to rob! The biggest surprise of this story was that it was from just a few years ago, because in all those decades cannabis laws still hadn’t changed on a federal level. To this very day medical cannabis dispensaries are laden with cash, because of the federal deposit laws. It’s a fascinating story, and it makes me think that if I were a criminal, I would probably target cannabis dispensaries myself! Since I am a law abiding gun-owner, I will instead start inquiring to see if any of these cannabis dispensaries need a reliable night watchman. Guarding a cannabis dispensary from thieves sounds like a pretty cool night job to have.
