I was genuinely surprised to find out that the store manager had been stealing cash from the safe. Bill always seemed like such a nice, caring type of guy, he just never struck me as a common thief. He also never struck me as being dumb, but I have to say that stealing cash from your own job is pretty dumb! Corporate accounting software, combined with regular inspections, make it very difficult to steal money without someone noticing. This is a cash-based business, we don’t take checks or credit cards, so the safe is always filled to capacity. This is the main reason that the corporate office always hires their own private security guard, who does not answer to the manager of the cannabis dispensary. The bosses want the security team to be independent, because if the manager of the cannabis dispensary is telling them what to do it makes it easier to steal. That is what Bill did, and not only did he lose his job but the cannabis dispensary legal department is pressing charges! This sends a message to all the other cannabis dispensary employees, that if you steal and get caught they will try and send you to jail! I didn’t steal anyway, but the thought of going to jail would certainly keep me from developing “sticky fingers” around the cannabis. Why would I steal anyway when we get such a sweet employee discount on cannabis products?
